Question Sequencing: Facts → Pain → Impact

Question Sequencing: Facts → Pain → Impact

Purpose of This Lesson

To teach you how to create urgency without pressure.

Why Question Order Matters

Asking the right question at the wrong time kills momentum.

Good discovery follows a natural flow:

  1. Facts (what exists)
  2. Pain (what doesn’t work)
  3. Impact (why it matters)

Skipping steps creates resistance.

Fact Questions (The Foundation)

These establish reality.

Examples:

  • “How many fixed assets are you managing?”
  • “When was the last full inventory conducted?”
  • “How many locations are involved?”

Fact questions are safe and non-threatening.

Pain Questions (Where Value Begins)

These expose problems.

Examples:

  • “What challenges usually appear during audits?”
  • “What happens when assets can’t be located?”
  • “Where do discrepancies usually come from?”

Pain questions should feel curious, not accusatory.

Impact Questions (Where Deals Are Won)

These create urgency.

Examples:

  • “What happens if this issue repeats next audit?”
  • “How much time does the team spend resolving discrepancies?”
  • “Who is held accountable when issues appear?”

Without impact, there is no deal.
